I know you think I’m crazy. But, Yes! Pairing sequins with chambray is, in fact, cool. Sequins, chambray and leopard print tennis shoes? Now that’s just a match made on the runway. Karl Lagerfeld had his lovelies stomping down the Spring 2014 runway wearing Mademoiselles’ signature tweed suits paired with tweed tennis shoes…and it was only a matter of minutes until all of Paris was following suit…and shoe. Now its our turn. This is not a trend born out of necessity ala Melanie Griffith in Working Girl, this is women trading in their thousand dollar Louboutins and chosing to wear tennis shoes with their couture. Its a true fashion statement. Mind blown? Here are a few examples I found on Pinterest.
Chambray and tennis shoes are just another way to make sequins more approachable. Tie it up at the waist, leave it untucked or tuck it in with a wide belt.
I know 1988 has been over for 27 years, but the chambray shirt has risen from it’s cedar closet in the 1980s graveyard. I wear mine weekly…as do I wear my leopard print tennis shoes.
The “Tennis Shoes with Everything” trend is an excellent one to follow in my opinion, because there is such a fun variety of comfortable shoes to chose. This isn’t your only option!
Try some of these instead!
Via Spiga ‘Gingi’ slip ons (9 colors) / Chuck Taylors (a zillion colors/patterns) / Michael Kors ‘Kristy’ slides (3 colors) / Kate Spade ‘Serena’ slip on (2 patterns) / Halogen ‘Turner’ Sneaker (4 colors)
When it comes to styling sequins, chambray and tennis shoes, chose neutral accessories with soft textures. The Birdie necklace from Stella and Dot is the perfect accent for this Look. The leather and chiffon feathers create an organic collar of fringe which really pops against the denim. What else is cool? This necklace can be worn THREE different ways! #threeforone
The Metallic Geo Chevron print matches the Birdie necklace beautifully, and the combination are really the only accessories needed. To keep things simple, I paired the Cleopatra Studs in gold as not to take away from the statement necklace, and slipped on the Pave Chevron Ring and Becker Cuff for extra sparkle.
I really want to encourage you to step out of your norm and find a way to make this trend your own. Check out my Style Wheel Pinboard for extra inspiration.
Just do it!…like Nike…tennis shoes.
