When you think about it, there’s really nothing peculiar about 97.5 KLAK hiring a 26-year-old ingenue to host their weekday morning show. According to entrepreneur.com millennials are the largest generation in the American workplace, and are considered curious, innovative and long to make a social impact–all perfect traits for a morning radio show host! I did find the situation ironic after learning that Randi Taylor, host of KLAK’s new morning show, Randi on the Radio, was hired after an 8-month, nation-wide search only to discover she was actually born and raised right here in McKinney, Texas. Truly folks, how comical is that?
“Randi is dynamic,” KLAK General Manager, David Smith, stated when I asked him what traits made her perfect for the position, “Plus we pride ourselves in being hyper local. Randi has a genuine love of McKinney and that is exactly what we wanted to offer McKinney citizens who tune in each morning.” After graduating from McKinney North High School in 2010, Randi attended The University of Arkansas and studied broadcast journalism with an emphasis in sports. Post college she was hired by Total Traffic and Weather Network (TTWN) and worked as a Traffic Anchor and Producer. Over the next three years, Randi developed her resume and radio personality by reporting traffic for several markets, and was the midday personality on AMP 103.7. She eventually came to work for KLAK in 2015 as a sideline reporter for the McKinney football games and later became the host the Saturday afternoon show.
When Ms. Taylor was selected as the talent for the weekday morning show in May, she made it her goal to be the face for McKinney, “I want to be out there among our community, getting to know our citizens and our small businesses. This is the best way to understand their needs and viewpoints,” Randi told me. She is quick to smile with an authentic, joyful demeanor. KLAK has discovered a real gem with Randi!
Returning to her hometown post college was a dream come true for this family-oriented McKinney gal, “My favorite thing to do on the weekends is head downtown with my parents. Honestly, can you imagine a better place to be?” Truth be told, Randi’s loyalty to McKinney and love for the local reminds me a bit of myself. As I listened to Randi proclaim that Jim’s Pizza is one of her favorite restaurants in McKinney, it took all I had not to jump up and hug the kindred spirit across from me. (Friends please trust Randi and me when we say this, Jim’s Pizza is THE BEST pizza in town!)
This fall, Randi and KLAK have extensive plans to enrich the McKinney community. The Endless Summer Giveaway has been a summer highlight at the station! Be sure to join KLAK at Dodge City of McKinney on Saturday, September 8th from 12pm-2pm as they announce the big winner of a one-year FREE lease of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited Sport 4×4!
