I am often asked what room in a home is my favorite. Many people love the kitchen or family rooms due to the natural gatherings that occur there, but my answer is always the porch. Outdoor living spaces are the epitome of Southern living and I adore the memories created in their lovely settings. Naturally, I was thrilled when Lauren asked me to design her outdoor dining area!

When designing an outdoor room, I like to survey the interior of the home. The interior of Lauren’s home is bold and bright with a coastal feel. While I love creating a seamless transition from indoors to out, I didn’t want Lauren’s outdoor dining area to compete with her bold interior. In tribute to Lauren’s love of Italy, we decided to create a Tuscan-inspired patio. It would create a natural transition – connecting her indoor Italian pieces to an outdoor Italian room. A neutral palette of ivory and natural greenery perfectly complements the traditional brick elements. By adding outdoor drapery, we created a warm, inviting space ready to welcome guests.
