Good morning McKinney!

Today I want to talk to you about an incredible entity we have available to us in McKinney called Volunteer McKinney. Founded in 1998, Volunteer McKinney is a center that assists McKinney citizens in finding local volunteer opportunities and serves as support to local nonprofits and community groups that utilize the power of volunteerism. Currently, Volunteer McKinney works with 154 local non-profit organizations. Can you believe that? 154! Isn’t it amazing that kind of support can be found in our town?

On the Volunteer McKinney website approximately 200 volunteer opportunities are listed, some long-term, some event specific, all important to the community. Last month Volunteer McKinney participated in Collin County Giving Day which benefitted 65 local NPOs. Finch Park held the festivities and it truly became a community celebration with food trucks, donation tents and lots of information about how the community can get involved.

This weekend, Volunteer McKinney is overseeing one of it’s biggest events of the year: McKinney Make a Difference Day. 23 different service projects are occurring on October 28th to benefit 17 different non-profit organizations. Gardening projects, craft projects, construction projects, kid-friendly projects…so many different opportunities to serve. Sign up as a group or as an individual, but whatever you do, make sure to SIGN UP! You can find a list of available projects by visiting the Volunteer McKinney website. Here are some pictures from Make a Difference Day last year.

There are 6 different After-Parties occurring on the 28th and the Make a Difference Day t-shirt is your ticket. Literally. Wear your t-shirt to receive half-off your bill! The After-Parties will take place at The One and Only Burger, Brother’s Pizza, Nom Noms, Italian Garden, Raising Cane’s (380 and 75) and Landon Winery. Visit one spot for lunch and one for dinner!

Thank you to the 500 plus volunteers who make Make a Difference Day possible! Volunteer McKinney couldn’t do it without you.

If you are unable to attend Make a Difference Day this weekend, you can easily donate monetarily by visiting the Volunteer McKinney website. There are also many other upcoming events, such as Santa on the Square starting next month, and the Spirit of McKinney event which will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Volunteer McKinney in spring 2018.

Thank you for your help, McKinney!
