From the desk of Lauren Palmer
Good morning McKinney! For those of you who have been following The Art of Living Beautifully for several years, you will remember there was a time from 2014-2016 when TAOLB operated as a lifestyle blog with fashion being one of the key elements of topic. These days I’m so busy playing magazine publisher, my fashion posts are few and far between. Today, however, I am thrilled to introduce you to local boutique owner and style lover, Gisela Fuentes.
Located on the west side of McKinney in Adriatica Village, GAL Clothing (named from the initials of Gisela’s children: Gaby, Alexa and Luis) began as a dream in 2000 after she gave birth to her first daughter and was working at a children’s clothing store. “Gaby was just a baby, and I remember praying that someday I would get to open a little boutique for women to shop,” Gisela told me.
In 2012, Gisela began selling clothing out of her home to gain confidence as well as learn the fashion trends and buying patterns of her future customers. She would hold shopping nights for neighbors and girlfriends that would give women the opportunity to come together and enjoy fellowship with one another while also doing a little shopping. These home-based events grew and grew until space eventually became an issue. It wasn’t long before Gisela began selling clothes in shared locations around McKinney. In 2014, the Lord answered her 14 year-long prayer, and she was able to open her very own boutique at its current Adriatica location. “Little by little the Lord has taken me there.” Friends, is this not the best testament of faith!? Fourteen years of prayer! Can I get an Amen!?
The mission at GAL Clothing is to make women feel comfortable and confident by offering high-quality, fashionable pieces, while also providing a price point that allows customers to purchase several items at one visit. “I especially love helping mothers and daughters when they visit the store, and we work hard to have an assortment that caters to women of all ages.” GAL is also an excellent place to purchase gifts: jewelry, candles, bath products, home décor, shoes and handbags are all part of the mix! BB Dakota, Everly, Umgee, Molly Phillips and Catherine Page are just a few of the clothing and jewelry labels you will find at GAL.
The success of GAL Clothing has brought Gisela much personal happiness, as it has allowed her to participate in several mission programs. This past December, Gisela returned to the country of her birth and visited an orphanage with Judy Pogue in Chiapas, Mexico called Casa Hogar Alegre. “The Lord answered my prayer and has allowed me to have a boutique of my own. Now is my chance to repay his sovereignty by helping others in His name.”
Friends, I hope you will stop by GAL Clothing sooner rather than later and visit with Gisela in her bright and airy boutique. Her kind and gracious spirit is a pleasure to experience…don’t you just love supporting good people?
