Today I am literally ecstatic to tell you about this new, local business that is taking North Texas by storm. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this picture of me with a lovely red-head holding a delicious spread of charcuterie. My new best friend, Rebekah Relander, is that lovely red-head, and is also the owner of Fig + Goat, and producer of their hand-crafted meat and cheese gathering boards.
Rebekah invited me over one morning to sample the product and learn more about her operation. Can I tell you that for the first time in my life, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking of those tasty bites, and wishing I could order a board to keep me fed every day? Friends, I cannot say enough good things about Rebekah and her boards.
Fig + Goat really began about a year ago when gardening with her two young daughters prompted Rebekah to design a whimsical, garden-centric t-shirt line. The cartoonish illustrations mixed with soft cotton is the perfect tee to dawn when browsing our local farmers market, or under a cardigan for spring brunch on the patio.
Last fall, when she inherited her grandparent’s wooden picnic table that was originally given to them for their 40th anniversary, Rebekah felt inspired by the conversations and memorable times the table had seen, and would still bring. “I love the idea of individuals gathering around a table,” Rebekah told me while I sampled her creation, “and I hope my boards can prompt some celebrated memories for the families that purchase from Fig + Goat.” She launched this new aspect of her business prior to Thanksgiving and now provides boards for weddings, cocktail parties, baby showers, corporate events, birthday parties, and even for the Superbowl! Would these not make the best house-warming gifts…delivered directly to their new front door!?
The gathering boards from Fig + Goat come in three sizes. They are delivered to your home on handmade wooden boards crafted by local wood worker Callum Vaclavik of Callum East Designs. Each board is packed with gourmet cheeses, preserves, fruits, meats, honeycomb, olives and various varieties of nuts. The honey and much of the fruit is sourced from local farmers and apiarists, while the cheeses and preserves are found in Vermont, Washington, California and Iowa. Each bite has story that adds to our own!
My favorite part of tasting the Fig + Goat board, was receiving direction from Rebekah on what to pair with what…and can I tell you, if you have never eaten Point Reyes Baby Blue Cheese paired with fresh honeycomb straight outta Fort Worth, friends, you HAVE NEVER LIVED. The memory of this bite is what woke me up in the middle of the night. Each board comes with a “pairing cheat sheet” so all customers are privy to what makes the perfect bite.
