Hello and Happy Wednesday to each of you. I’ve linked with The Pleated Poppy today and am showing you my very first Style Wheel Big Deal look with…
The Camel Trench!
For those of you who are new to the blog, each month I select a certain article of clothing I believe is worthy of your investment, and then show multiple ways to style it through out the month! Here are a few from 2015:
December-The Metallic Dress
Like I mentioned in my January Newsletter, the camel-colored trench truly is the Queen of neutral outerwear. Camel pairs well with black, brown and navy–other base neutrals–and the belted trench is a timeless silhouette that doesn’t need to be updated often.
Pairing a classic and elegant wrapper with the ultimate in lady-like femininity (aka the silk blouse) is exceptionally chic and simple to pull off. If you don’t own a cream-colored silk blouse you should most definitely invest in one. I should probably make it a Style Wheel Big Deal in the future because they are so versatile and a necessary part of every wardrobe.
This one from Banana Republic comes in four colors and has one small ruffle across the chest and down each sleeve. The cream blouse has a rose gold button at the neck and at the wrist to further reinforce this well-bred and feminine theme our style seems to be taking with this look. I took this as the go ahead to accessorize with a simple rose gold necklace and watch. The necklace is delicate. The watch modern.
NOTE: my sister-in-law, Jen, is very tiny and this blouse was overwhelming on her. If you are small invest in a blouse with no adornment.
Distressed jeans add a nice, unexpected balance to our modest top and trench. Jeans always have the ability to make any top/coat combo more approachable. I finished the look with a neutral heel–WHICH I’M IN LOVE WITH–and a clutch by Buco I found at Sharla’s last year. She doesn’t have any more right now, but you can grab a navy or orange one on Amazon!!!
Cork is an element I typically reserve for Summer months, however, it paired so well with the trench, and the promise of Spring is not so far away, I ignored my own rule and brought it out of the wardrobe. Small promises of warmer days (like cork) definitely aid me in finding some sunshine during these cold, Winter months.
