A few months ago when I was prepping for the October issue of The Art of Living Beautifully magazine, I was visiting with Laura Towery, whose home and collection of antique equestrian decor we featured, and she shared with me a few pictures of a baby shower she recently helped design here in McKinney. It didn’t take long after looking at Lori Wilson’s stunning photographs that I knew I had to share about this beautiful shower with all of you.

When planning a baby shower for her step-daughter Emily, Christy Hayes enlisted the help of long-time pal and local designer Nathalie Thabuis. She had two requests:

1.) That it be a complete surprise for the mommy-to-be

2.) That the color PINK rule the day.

“When planning the shower, the color pink was our total inspiration…and I think we hit the nail on the head!”    ~Christy

Christy, Nathalie and Laura excitedly got to work and the result was a stunning luncheon for 15 with hundreds of pink blossoms, pink champagne, bellinis, delicious canapés and plenty of precious baby-ware especially picked for Ella Grace. When Emily arrived at her parent’s McKinney home, her brother and a few of his friends greeted her as valet parkers for the afternoon. 40″ gold helium filled balloons climbed the stairs and spelled out Ella Grace, looking over the sign-in table below. Arrangements of pink roses, hydrangea and peonies greeted guests along with pictures of Emily when she was baby.

Guests sat at three 5-top tables flanked by gold chairs with pink cushions. Places were set with Gothic Gold by Muirfield china atop glass beaded chargers which provided a glimpse of powder puff pink satin napkins beneath. King Arthur gold flatware by Towle lay nearby, and tall champagne flutes and water goblets with delicate gold bands stood sentry, never left empty for more than few seconds thanks to the mindful servers watching from their stations.

Emily’s chair was tied with a satin bow and marked with a spray of metallic twigs.

A band of flowers across the balcony mimicked the arrangements on the tables below…

…as did the arrangement across the fireplace hearth.

The mommy to be’s favorite champagne, Veuve Clicquot Rosé, was a highlight of the day. Glasses of champagne and rosé bellinis were served to guests as refreshments when they arrived. Half bottles were also given as a parting favor. Two Sisters Catering created beautiful trays of canapés for guests to enjoy while visiting, and then served heavier versions once guests were seated. Fresh Fruit Skewers, Black Pepper Chicken Satay, Twice Baked Baby New Potatoes, Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce, Chicken Salad Finger Sandwiches, Cucumber Finger Sandwiches, and Two Sister’s Signature Green Salad were all enjoyed by guests. Coffee, iced-tea and water were also available to drink. A custom 9″ cake from Carlo’s Bakery was served for dessert. The red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and fondant icing was decorated to look like a beautiful gift with gold ribbon.

From the hours of 2-5, Emily, Christy and their friends celebrated the impending birth of Ella Grace. Christy had carefully displayed Emily’s baby clothes, shoes and toys as decor which led to funny stories and happy-tear memories.

By the looks of so many smiles and hugs above, little Ella Grace is very loved already. Congratulations to Emily on this happy occasion and to Christy for throwing such a beautiful shower to celebrate Emily and baby Ella Grace.

“I could not believe how beautiful everything looked when I walked in the front door! Every detail made the day so special.”  ~Emily

Let’s all raise a glass (of Veuve Clicquot of course!) and toast this sweet family.
