Mirror, mirror, on the wall…
Not all mirrors are meant to be hang on the wall.
When decorating various rooms in your home, mirrors are beautiful accent pieces and can be used in many ways to add style to a room. Here are 5 helpful tips when decorating with mirrors.
- BE MINDFUL OF THE REFLECTION. Reflecting light or a specific item such as a chandelier or piece of art are good choices when deciding where to place a mirror in a room. Reflecting a random item or clutter is never a good idea. I love the beautiful reflection of the French doors in this distressed painted mirror from Shades of Light.
2.) INCORPORATE A LARGE MIRROR IN A SMALL SPACE. Adding a large mirror to a small space is an easy way to reflect light and make a space feel bigger. A large mirror at the end of a narrow hallway creates an optical illusion of expanding the wall and will instantly open up the space. The Rashida mirror from Ballard Designs would draw instant attention to a space and create a perfect accent piece.
3.) FLOOR LENGTH MIRRORS. Create a layered look by placing an oversized full-length mirror behind a chest, or stand it alone leaned against the wall. Either way, a full-length mirror instantly draws your eye upward making a space feel bigger (photo from Ethan Allen).
4.) STATEMENT PIECES. An ornate or antique mirror in an entryway is a great way to welcome guests and add the perfect touch of luxury to your home. Horchow offers beautiful ornate mirrors. The large Jacqueline mirror is one of my favorites.
5.) MIRRORED FURNITURE. Want to add a glamourous element to a room? Mirrored furniture is the perfect solution. Not only will it create a stunning room it will reflect the sunlight during the day and the warm light from lamps at night. Leonardo Di Vinci says, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and that’s the idea behind Pier One’s Oversized Mirror Bedside Chest.
No matter where you choose to incorporate mirrors in your home, mirrors can make any room appear larger, brighten a dark space, and create a beautiful focal point. I hope these simple tips have inspired you to incorporate beautiful mirrors into your home.
