So, my crew doesn’t really like oatmeal. I live with three texture-sensitive, picky eaters who prefer not to eat anything the least bit “mushy.” But believe me when I tell you this recipe is wonderful…if you like oatmeal. And if you’re not texture-sensitive. Or picky.
It is full of fall flavors like pears and maple syrup, and is a great addition to Thanksgiving Brunch. Plus, how fantastic to wake up to the smell of cinnamon and the knowledge that one of the dishes your serving is already ready. Ingredients:
1 apple peeled and chopped
1 pear peeled and chopped
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup uncooked steel cut oats
2 TBS Maple Syrup
1 1/2 TBS butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 crock pot liner
optional garnishes: chopped walnuts, golden raisins, additional maple syrup or butter
Directions:
Add all ingredients except garnishes into a lined slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-7 hours. Serve hot in bowls and with chosen garnish.
**NOTE** If you or your crew are texture sensitive or picky, serve a fruit and yogurt parfait by layering granola, apples and pears and Greek yogurt in a clear trifle dish or in individual mason jars.
