The sometimes bitter weather of North Texas brings a great need for a thick gray poncho by MICHAEL Michael Kors. Ponchos are the perfect weight for our region, and the turtleneck provides a bit of extra warmth on especially chilly days. Black leather pocket detail gives a cool edge to what could otherwise be considered a shapeless and/or matronly piece of clothing. These black leather leggings by Splendid [which I picked up at Cotton Hearts] are definitely not matronly…or shapeless, so are the perfect choice to pair with the poncho. I’ve also worn it with blackwatch plaid skinny Joe’s jeans and loved the combination. This exact poncho is no longer available but a similar one –also by Michael Kors–is available here.
When wearing an article of clothing as large as a poncho, I think it is always a good idea to keep jewelry to minimum. Either studs or no earrings at all are best–dangles will just get stuck on the turtleneck. A beaded Chan Luu necklace with bone detail was simple but still made a statement. The muted beads brought just enough color to brighten the black, white and gray palette. I think this cocktail ring was the very first piece I ever bought from Amanda at a Stella and Dot trunk show years ago, and I still wear it a ton! This one is beautiful if you’re in the market for a new sparkly ring.
I paired the same truffle booties by Franco Sarto I wore with the leopard dress in Mas leopard, please, and think they brought an industrial element to the black leather details. Lucky you they are still available at Nordstrom.
When looking at these pictures, you would never know it was probably ninety degrees outside during the photoshoot. Thank goodness Patrizia and I were able to take shelter from the heat at Emporium Pies on the Downtown McKinney Square. If you have never had a piece of pie from the Emporium, please stop what you are doing and go there right this second. If they have a strawberry rhubarb made, please eat a slice immediately and order a French press to go with it. FANTASTIC!! I ordered a couple of pies last year for Thanksgiving because I have absolutely no idea how to bake…even with a ready made pie crust I end up burning or destroying any sort of baked good I attempt. That being said, the Emporium pies are delicious.
Stay warm on these chilly days, girls. A poncho just may do the trick.
