A couple of years ago I was introduced to the Pioneer Woman’s Spicy Dr. Pepper Pork, and something shifted in my kitchen universe. This go-to crock pot recipe has become a family favorite, and is especially excellent when entertaining a crowd.

One of the best things about this recipe is how many ways you can serve the pork. Today it’s sliders, but stay tuned in the coming weeks for two other delicious dishes using this same method.

for the pork:



1 pork shoulder aka: pork butt (5-7 pounds), salted and peppered

2 onions, quartered and separated

2 (11 oz) cans Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce

2 cans of Dr. Pepper

3 TBS Brown Sugar


1.) Spread onions across the bottom of a lined crock pot.

2.) Place pork on top of onions

3.) Pour peppers and Dr. Pepper over the pork.

4.) Add brown sugar to liquid in the crock pot.

5.) Cook on low 6-8 hours.

6.) Shred with a fork

1 package King’s Hawaiian Rolls

 sliced dill pickles

Spicy Dr. Pepper Pork (above)

Siracha BBQ Sauce from Trader Joe’s
