After owning a restaurant in Central Texas for 15 years, 11|17 owners Justin and Channa Jones, have opened McKinney’s newest eatery on the southeast corner of Stonebridge Drive and HWY 380. Named from the numbers of their children’s birthdays, 11|17 is now serving lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Several elements made me very happy to welcome 11|17 to our community, the first being the addition of a quality restaurant with a fun atmosphere to the west side of McKinney. Am I alone in this? Other than a few spots in Adriatica, McKinney’s west side is severely lacking a gastronomy scene worthy of our pocket books or family meals. “When Justin and I decided to open a restaurant here in McKinney, we knew exactly the genre needed: something with simple, delicious food, and an atmosphere that allowed parents to sit on the patio with a cocktail, while kids enjoy being outside,” Channa told me mid-February when I initially met her at the then-construction site. I could not agree with her more. Just a few short weeks later, the restaurant opened for business, and the Jones’s invited me to 11|17 for lunch. I can say with all conviction they accomplished their goal!
The menu is an assortment of home-cooked southern staples: Hand-Breaded Steak Fingers, House-Made Meatloaf, a variety of chef-driven salads, plus 7 different types of hamburgers and 6 different sandwiches. The food isn’t pretentious, nor does it attempt to break some non-existent culinary boundary. Instead, Justin serves his guests high-quality, approachable favorites that will appeal to diners of all ages. He and Channa both have an authenticity that has manifested in the food they serve and the atmosphere they have created at 11|17.
I know TAOLB readers will be so happy to hear that 11|17 has a full-service bar. The wine list complements the food in both flavor and price, and the cocktail menu is a compilation of Justin and Channa’s favorite drinks and liquors, many inspired by the couple’s travels. The Gimlet is inspired by Channa’s lunches at The Ivy when work would take her to LA; itcalls for Justin’s favorite whiskey, Woodford Reserve. The Fresh pays homage to Channa’s favorite drink at the W in Puerto Rico. The bar at 11|17 makes their infusions in house, i.e.: The Pineapple Martini uses pineapple Grey Goose Vodka which takes 5-7 days to infuse. I wonder which will be your favorite?
Whatever occasion prompts you to visit 11|17, I hope you will take advantage of their proximity to the west side, the combination of quality and flavor in the food served, and the gracious smiles of owners Justin and Channa Jones when you walk through the door.
